Makeup

For our second day of filming we decided that to make our ending more shocking we needed the dead person to be more obviously dead. To do this we had to make more visible fake blood to show up on camera so we used flour, water and red food colouring. We took pictures of the process and the end result:

Evaluation

Thursday 18th of March

Now that our thriller opening is almost complete we have to start on our individual evaluations. The rough draft is due in on Monday 22nd of March. After we hand in our practical work tomorrow our main focus will be on our evaluations.

We have 7 questions to answer for the Thriller Film Opening Sequence Evaluation.

These questions include:

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge conventions of real media products?

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

3) What kind of media institution would distribute your media product?

4) Who would be your audience for your media product?

5) How did you attract/address your audience?

6) What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing your product?

7) Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to your final product?

We produce this evaluation using powerpoint and it has to be between 1500-2000 words.

Finishing of our opening

Thursday 18th of March

The final deadline for our thriller opening is Friday 19th of March at 10.30. So today we need to have the majority of opening completely finished in order to hand in tomorrow.
This includes: 1) The Ident
2) The Credits
3) The Editing
4) The Music

We have completed the ident, credits and editing, therefore today we are going to focus on finishing off the soundtrack for our thriller. Once the music is done we will have to import it to final cut and add it to our film. Once this is finished we will have completed our thriller opening.

Rough Cut and Feedback

Friday, 12th of March

In today's lesson each group evaluated everyone's work, from this we were able to receive feedback and constructive criticism. Below is the feedback we got, containing what was good about our opening, and also what could be improved:

What was good?

U1-35:
-The credits
-The ident
-Continuity
-The bag bit where it sometimes sped up

U1-34:
-Music ;)
-Sound effects
-Ident

U1-33:
-Good music that goes well with the film

U1-32:
-Love the music
-Close-ups
-Contridiction of blood and violent aspects with cheery music
-Created a good mystery

What could be improved?

U1-35:
-Not quite sure we understood the narrative

U1-34:
-Camera sounds

U1-33:
-Bit longer
-Didn't understand the storyline

U1-32:
- more fixation of dead body
- more like a horror (blood and dead body etc)

After reviewing our feedback we have realised that we need to remove all of the excess camera sounds from our opening. We will do this by lowering the volume of certain areas of the clips. We also want to make the storyline clearer, we can do this by focusing more on the dead body.

Friday 5 March 2010

Re-shoot.

Friday, 5th of March.

Yesterday, our filming went well. We had to re-do the ending and make Rosie's injury more interesting and noticable. We made some blood out of flour water and red food colouring.
It was disgusting, but really looked like blood :)

We managed to re-shoot everything we needed too. Even though we were pushed for time as one of us had to go early.

So today we are editing, so far, it has gone really well and we are almost finished cutting and putting the scenes in place.

Tuesday 2 March 2010

What we've done this lesson.

Tuesday 2nd of March

Today Lauren and Ashleigh got the rough cut for the editing finished before the new footage is done. Mercedes and I finished the music for our ident and continued with the soundtrack for our opening. We have found a lot more things we need to re-shoot and have started writing them all down for the continuity.

Reshooting list

Tuesday 2nd of March

On thursday we plan to reshoot certain parts of our thriller opening, we have decided the scenes that we need to reshoot;
- Putting on jacket from behind -as camera was showing
- Putting on jacket from front - Bag in the shot
- Brushing shoulder and putting on badge and close up- bag in the shot
- Death on stairs- from dead bodies point of view
- Dr carpenter walking out of the door

We also had a discussion with Dave about creating a sense of mystery to the thriller opening from the very beginning. We could do this by adding bloody hand prints throughout the shots to leave the audience wondering what has happened.
